Baby Showers Go On The Road

Like so many other events this Spring, our April Moms to Moms baby shower could not be held in person because of COVID-19. But we couldn’t miss the chance to celebrate our moms and their completion of Alliance Medical Center’s series of prenatal education classes. Our baby showers normally provide much-needed baby supplies like a brand-new infant car seat and stroller, diapers and more, so our staff has been carefully and safely delivering the gifts to each mother along with a prepared meal, donated from a local restaurant. The mothers currently in the program have extra concerns about the health and safety of their newborn babies during the pandemic as well as worries about their family’s economic stability, with some of them or their partners out of work. It is a stressful time to welcome a child and we hope these gifts and supplies for the baby will relieve some of that anxiety.

This is one of our first drop-off baby showers. The expecting mother and her family were very grateful for the gifts and the delicious enchiladas from Taqueria El Sombrero. While our regular volunteers aren’t able to join us at a physical party, we’re so pleased that each mother will continue to receive a handmade quilt from Tina Crabtree, who has been making beautiful baby quilts since the first Corazón baby shower in 2017. The Alliance prenatal program helps expecting mothers prepare for childbirth, breastfeeding and life with their new baby, all while giving them the opportunity to connect with other mothers in the community and strengthen their support network. At the baby showers, we also normally share about Corazón’s other programs and some of these mothers later take our classes while their children are in our free childcare. Some moms have now completed their GED or their computer skills certificate with us! The Moms to Moms baby showers are a partnership between Alliance Medical Center, Corazón Healdsburg and the Healdsburg Moms Group. We look forward to hosting in-person showers with these partners when it is safe to do so. And if you’d like to support these mothers (from a distance!), you can always purchase a gift from our Moms to Moms baby shower wish list.
